The Cypress and the Snow
There is a Cypress tree called Blue Ice Cypress. I love designing with it. It is exactly what it sounds like, crackly blue ice, the kind you would find in Alaska. (Or at least that’s where my imagination goes.) Texturally it is a dream and the colors make me want to swim in it. Naturally, it made its way into my winter holiday card along with snowy grace from the Star of Bethlehem flower. Happy Winter!

Watercolor Botanical Print: With Love Card
Tillandsia
Architecturally speaking Tillandsias (airplants) are pretty stunning. The way they live and thrive is equally as interesting. Airplants do have roots but unlike most plants it is not how they get their nutrients, nor do they need soil to grow. Instead, they have tiny scales called trichomes that act like a sponge, wicking up moisture and nutrients from the air. They can live attached or hanging from just about anything and can be found within a vast range of places from deserts to tropical rain forests. Dramatic and adaptive!

Stay Wild Wildflower
This sweet composition was a combination of what I had in my meager and humble garden. When I put it all together my meager flowers made a huge impact! In it you will find some of my favorites: Chocolate Cosmos, Strawflower, Echinacea, Zebra Grass, Sweet Pea, Blueberries, Smokebush, and Black Lace Elderberry. Stay Wild friends.

Watercolor Botanical Print: Thinking of You Card
Poppy Pods
While working in a Floral Shop we had the absolute pleasure of picking flowers out of Martha's van. Martha would come down from her farm in Hood River once a week, open the doors of her van and piles of beauty would spill out. Each stem was hand-picked and carefully cleaned. My favorite, (is there really just one?) was when the Poppy Pods made their way to us and for weeks I would marvel at their odd shapes and endless combinations of blues, greens, and yellows. This card was originally painted 18”x24”. That painting still hangs on my wall today and always makes me smile, thinking of you.

Zinnias
WOW! That’s me, every time I see a Zinnia. Just wow. There are so many varieties and color combinations it seems endless. This is just one of the many I will paint in my lifetime. If you get a chance look up “Queen Red Lime”, “Zindarella Peach”, “Macarenia”or “Mazurkia”. You will definitely find them on a future design of mine for sure!
